Which type of eye dryness is suitable for steam warm eye masks
There are mainly 3 types of eye dryness: tear deficiency type, excessive evaporation type and mucin deficiency type.
1.Applicable type: Excessive evaporation type (rapid evaporation of tears)
The core mechanism: This type of dryness is caused by blocked meibomian glands or insufficient lipid secretion, resulting in the loss of the lipid layer on the outermost layer of the tear film. When the meibomian glands cannot secrete oil normally, tears are more likely to evaporate, making the eyes extremely dry. Hot compress for unblocking is a very good way to relieve it. Self Warming Eye Mask, through "wet heat application" , can help soften solidified meibomian lipids, unblock blocked meibomian glands, and promote oil secretion, thereby reducing tear evaporation and alleviating dryness.
2. Inapplicable type: Dryness due to fluid deficiency (insufficient tear secretion)
Cause: This type of dryness is caused by insufficient tear secretion from the lacrimal glands. Hot compresses cannot increase tear secretion; instead, they may accelerate tear evaporation and intensify the dryness. Such patients must strictly follow the doctor's instructions when using eye products.
3. Precautions and Risks for Use
(1) Temperature and time control
The temperature of Steaming Eye Mask should be controlled between 42℃ and 45℃. Excessively high temperatures may burn the skin around the eyes or the cornea.
The single use time should be no more than 15 minutes. Avoid using it overnight as it may cause low-temperature burns.
(2) Prohibited groups:
Do not wear contact lenses (high temperature may cause the lenses to deform or adhere to the cornea);
Patients with acute eye inflammation (such as conjunctivitis, keratitis), trauma or postoperative conditions;
People with diabetes and facial sensory disorders (who are insensitive to temperature and prone to burns).
People with severe dry eye syndrome need to seek medical attention for comprehensive treatment and strictly follow the doctor's advice.
